Elise Youssoufian: Trees of life, peace and persistence
Elise Youssoufian, a U.S.-based Armenian poet, weaver and scholar, has shared a photo of her second Armenian carpet weaving.
"Trees of life, roots and branches, peace and persistence...
Left: 100-year-young Armenian Shoghshoghun Khatch ("Shining Cross") hand-knotted rug — one of the Artsakh treasures from the Shushi Carpet Museum — rescued and brought to Yerevan during the violent fall 2020 onward Azeri occupation.
Right: my second Armenian carpet weaving, an homage begun winter solstice 2021 in Yerevan and completed in California, April 2023, with bows to the ancestors of blood, land, spirit, and justice, and my dear teacher. May repair and solidarity flower brightly 'round the world, heart to heart, land to land, sea to sea," she posted on Facebook on Friday.
