'Assault on free speech': Oppositionist slams fellow's arrest
Opposition activist Vazgen Saghatelyan expects to be arrested following his fellow activist Narek Samsonyan’s detention.
Samsonyan, a vocal critic of Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan’s government, was brutally taken away by police officers near his home in Yerevan on Friday morning. The Investigative Committee later said he was accused of “hooliganism”.
The two men are the hosts of Imnemnimi Podcast, a major opposition platform.
“I guess I am next in line for arrest. I just hadn't left the house yet,” Saghatelyan told MediaHub.
He denounced the authorities for Samsonyan’s brutal arrest.
“This is hooliganism and amounts to an assault on free speech. It’s not the first time Narek has been detained in this way,” the activist underscored.
