Expert slams use of fake Azeri toponyms for Armenian settlements
In addition to its failure to recognize the territorial integrity of Armenia, the Azerbaijani regime refrains from using any official place names for Armenian settlements in its statements, using all the tools of "war of toponyms", says Vardan Voskanyan, a Yerevan-based expert on Iran.
In a social media post on Tuesday, he referred to the latest statement by the Azerbaijani Defense Ministry which falsely accused the Armenian military of firing at its positions in Nakhichevan.
“The statement refers to the village of Yeraskh in Armenia's Ararat Province as ‘Arazdeyen’ of some ‘Davali’ region, while the village of Sarnakunk in Sisian is called ‘Saybali settlement of the Garakilisa region’,” the expert wrote.
“Every time someone uses the name 'Ashagh Aksipara' instead of Nerkin Voskepar, they should remember that they are also pouring water to the mills of the enemy, which is waging a "war of toponyms" against Armenia," Voskanyan noted.
