Serzh Sargsyan says Armenia-EU-US meeting will intensify Russia-West confrontation
Third Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan believes Friday’s high-level talks between Armenia, the United States and the European Union will add to the geopolitical confrontation between the West and Russia in the South Caucasus region.
Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan will hold a trilateral meeting in Brussels with European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken.
“Such a meeting will definitely intensify the confrontation between the West and Russia in our region,” Sargsyan told reporters on Thursday.
The ex-president stresses that Armenia should ask the EU and the U.S. to really help the country restore its sovereign territory and release Armenian prisoners held by Azerbaijan.
“Armenia should ask for support to restore the rights of the Artsakh Armenians, while the U.S. and the EU should demand that the Armenian leader establish genuine democracy in the country," Sargsyan added.
