Opposition Hayastan faction leader Seyran Ohanyan rejects as false the Armenian leadership’s claims that the delimitation and demarcation process of the border with Azerbaijan from Tavush Province has been initiated by the Armenian military’s General Staff.

“I believe the statements that the launch of the border delimitation and demarcation process from Tavush has been proposed by the General Staff are absolutely false,” he told reporters on Tuesday.

Ohanyan, a former defense minister, denounced the government’s plans to hand over four Tavush villages to Azerbaijan in unilateral land concessions.

“The four villages in question are Armenian and under Armenia’s control. Meanwhile, large swaths of territory in the area remain under Azeri control,” the MP noted. “The claims that they are Azerbaijani lands indicate the Armenian leadership’s poor insight into border delimitation and demarcation and readiness to make unilateral concessions.”

Also, he expressed concern over the possible partial delimitation and demarcation of the Armenian-Azerbaijani border sought by Baku.

“The Armenian authorities are attempting to start the delimitation and demarcation process from the end,” Ohanyan added.
