Armenian opposition votes against domestic violence bill using term 'partner'
Armenian opposition MPs on Friday voted against amendments to the domestic violence law introducing the concept of the “partner”.
“The draft law version set for the second reading vote is equally unacceptable to us as the previous version,” opposition Hayastan faction MP Artsvik Minasyan said, calling out the authors of the bill for their failure to address the concerns about the use of the term “partner” raised by the Armenian Church.
“Thus, the faction members are going to vote against it,” Minasyan added.
The bill, which was introduced by ruling Civil Contract faction MPs Zaruhi Batoyan, Sona Ghazaryan and Tsovinar Vardanyan, was adopted by a vote of 57 for, 25 against and one abstention.
