False terror alert causes panic in Yerevan schools
A fake threat of terrorism has caused a panic in Yerevan schools since Friday morning.
Many parents rushed to schools to take their children home following a terrorist attack alert on Telegram which turned out to be hoax.
The gates of Nikol Aghbalyan Basic School in Yerevan, where a Panorama.am correspondent visited, were closed, while the schoolyard was empty. A parent came to the school to find out whether second-shift classes would be held.
The school administration told Panorama.am that NSS and police officers had visited the school earlier on Friday.
Yerevan Municipality spokesman Hayk Kostanyan said the fake terror threat had not disrupted classes in some Yerevan schools.
"Both the National Security Service and the Interior Ministry are informed of the situation. Please reach out to them for further clarifications!” he said.
The police promised to issue a statement if deemed necessary.
