New Middle East crisis will directly affect Armenia, MP warns
The escalation of tensions in the Middle East will have a direct impact on Armenia, warns opposition MP Tigran Abrahamyan.
His comments came after Iran launched more than 300 drones and missiles at Israel on Saturday night in retaliation for the April 1 strike on its consulate in Damascus that killed 13 people, including two senior generals and other members of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps.
In a social media post on Monday, Abrahamyan, the opposition Pativ Unem faction secretary, claimed Iran “had no choice” but to retaliate against Israel’s attack.
“Strangely enough, the attack on Iran's diplomatic mission failed to trigger a tough response from the international community, except for some countries. Thus, it is simply unfair to accuse Iran of causing instability in the region,” he wrote on Facebook.
“The situation has not fully de-escalated, and the U.S. efforts to restrain Israel and prevent a further escalation of tensions are crucial.
“The emergence of a new crisis in the region will directly affect Armenia, increasing the dangerous consequences under the current government,” the MP stated.
