Altercation erupts at Yerevan City Council
An altercation erupted between two female members of the Yerevan City Council on Tuesday.
Speaking at a City Council meeting, Kristina Vardanyan, a member of the opposition National Progress faction, urged the municipal authorities to stop the massive tree cutting in Yerevan.
“You announced four years ago that elms should be cut down, but now you are standing against their replacement,” Yerevan Mayor Tigran Avinyan responded.
Ani Khachatryan, a member of the Republic faction. advised Kristina Vardanyan to address her appeal to Hayk Marutyan, an ex-mayor who leads the National Progress Party.
"Ani, calm down, you came here seeking to take revenge, you're monkeying around, that's enough!" Vardanyan responded.
Ani Khachatryan, in turn, urged Kristina Vardanyan to "admit" that she was “doing all this” to gain the post of the director of the Yerevan Municipality Greening and Environmental Protection Community Non-Profit Organization.
Kristina Vardanyan responded that she herself had turned down the position.
