Expert: What Russia gains from troop withdrawal from Artsakh?
The withdrawal of Russian peacekeepers from Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh) could signal a new conspiracy against Armenia, says Armen Petrosyan, a scholar of Oriental studies.
“What is Russia gaining in return for the pullout of its peacekeeping contingent from Artsakh ahead of schedule? Does this possible deal signal a new joint conspiracy against Armenia?” Petrosyan wrote on Facebook on Friday.
“These concerns are, in fact, well grounded. After the full occupation of Artsakh, Azerbaijan rejected the meeting in Granada and the negotiations in Brussels, the document to be signed as a result of which, in fact, would invalidate the (Russian-mediated) 9 November 2020 trilateral statement and one of its key provisions on the unblocking of regional communications,” the expert said.
