Statement on border delimitation deal violates Armenian laws, activist claims
The statement on a border delimitation agreement between Armenia and Azerbaijan issued by the Armenian Foreign Ministry on Friday runs counter to the Armenian Constitution and other laws, claims activist Edgar Ghazaryan, a former ambassador to Poland.
According to the statement, Armenia has agreed to hand over four border villages to Azerbaijan as the initial step in defining the frontier between the two countries. It said that the agreement was reached at the eight meeting between Deputy Prime Minister Mher Grigoryan and his Azerbaijani counterpart Shahin Mustafayev held at a border section on April 19.
“Mher Grigoryan is not entitled to hold such talks and sign documents,” Ghazaryan told reporters outside the Armenian government on Saturday.
“Even if any agreement is signed, it cannot enter into force before the Constitutional Court verifies its compliance with the Constitution and the National Assembly ratifies it,” he stated.
