NATO official welcomes Armenia-Azerbaijan border delimitation deal
Javier Colomina, NATO Secretary General’s Special Representative for the Caucasus and Central Asia, has welcomed Friday's agreement on the delimitation of the Armenian-Azerbaijani border based on the 1991 Alma Ata Declaration.
"Welcome the agreement between Armenia and Azerbaijan on the 1991 Almaty declaration as the basis for border delimitation," he posted on X on Monday.
"Recognition of territorial integrity of both is a key principle. As Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg stated in his trip to the region NATO strongly supports the normalisation efforts," Colomina added.
Armenia has agreed to hand over four border villages to Azerbaijan as the initial step in defining the frontier between the two countries, sparking protests in border communities of Tavush Province.
For the third day in a row, border residents in Tavush have been protesting and blocking the Armenia-Georgia interstate highway, demanding that the Armenian leadership back down on unilateral territorial concessions to Azerbaijan.
