Armenian community leaders warn of border delimitation risks
The delimitation of the border between Armenia and Azerbaijan at the section of Baghanis and Voskepar, border villages in the Noyemberyan community, poses grave security risks, local officials warn.
The Armenian authorities announced the beginning of delimitation work on the ground on Tuesday.
“The new border makes the most important parts of the community's territory vulnerable, posing a major threat to its population,” the community said in a statement.
“We support the establishment of peace, yet the delimitation process, in fact, amounts to unilateral concessions by Armenia, whereas the Azerbaijani armed forces continue to occupy Armenian territories, including in Tavush Province. In these circumstances, it is unrealistic to talk about peace for a few villages.
“Carrying out border delimitation in such a format is unacceptable to us, therefore, the Noyemberyan community and its leadership, including the mayors of the border villages, do not support the border delimitation process and are not engaged in it in any way," reads the statement.
