Karen Igityan, an expert on regional issues and co-founder of the Armenian Project NGO, claims the start of the Armenian-Azerbaijani border delimitation in Tavush Province is essential for Baku.

"This process started in 2018 and entered the practical stage in 2020, when the surrender of Armenian territories to Azerbaijan began," he told reporters at the conference "Genocides and Ethnic Cleansing in the 21st Century" hosted by the Institute for Armenian Studies on Tuesday.

Igityan recalled that Armenia had five roads linking the country to the outside world via Iran and Georgia. "One of them, the Goris-Kapan road, has already been handed over to Azerbaijan, Currently, a road section in Tavush is being ceded to Baku. That is, two out of five roads have already been surrendered," the expert noted.

He stated Azerbaijan continued its genocidal policy against Armenia, seeking to establish geopolitical control over Yerevan.

“The delimitation of the Armenian-Azerbaijani border has started from Tavush Province because it has Armenia’s best equipped defense line," the expert said.

"More optimally, the border delimitation should have started in Syunik, Vayots Dzor, Gegharkunik Provinces, i.e. the areas where the Azerbaijani military invaded earlier and are currently stationed on the sovereign territory of Armenia. Delimitation has kicked off from Tavush as it is important for Azerbaijan," Igityan noted.
