Politician: Incident involving Pashinyan's wife confirms 'explosive' situation in Armenia
The latest incident involving Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan's wife, Anna Hakobyan, indicates that the situation in Armenia is “explosive”, claims Levon Zurabyan, deputy chair of the Armenian National Congress Party.
Hakobyan was jeered by several dozen people when she visited the Tsitsernakaberd Memorial Complex in Yerevan to commemorate the 109th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide on April 24. Upon seeing her, the people began chanting “Genocidal Nikol!” and “Nikol the Turk!”.
"The incident is a testament to the explosive situation that has been unfolding in Armenia. Such incidents confirm that the rebellion against the government's policy is overdue not only among political circles, but also ordinary people," Zurabyan told a program aired on 24News.
He states the leadership can pursue a policy disapproved by the general public if it is based on a strategic, realistic and key approach, which Nikol Pashinyan's policy lacks.
"There is no ideological base or strategy that could justify this policy," Zurabyan said, accusing Pashinyan of bringing Armenia to a deadlock.
