School students go on strike in Armenia's Tavush
School students in Baghanis, a border village in Armenia’s Tavush Province, walked out of classes on Thursday to protest against the Armenian government’s decision to hand over four adjacent border areas to Azerbaijan.
“Students in the border village of Baghanis have launched a boycott of classes in defense of their homeland,” the Tavush for the Homeland movement said in a social media post.
“The struggle against lies and falsehoods continues for the sake of truth and justice,” it added.
Residents of Baghanis and nearby villages have been protesting against unilateral territorial concessions to Baku for eight days now, blocking the Yerevan-Tbilisi interstate road.
The protests began late on 19 April after the Armenian authorities announced a border delimitation deal involving the handover of four villages in Tavush to Azerbaijan.
