Expert urges efforts to prevent Azeri control of gas pipeline in Armenia's Tavush
Varuzhan Geghamyan, a Yerevan-based geopolitical strategist and regional security expert, says Armenian officials’ statements on the possible purchase of natural gas from Azerbaijan are not accidental as the pipeline supplying Russian gas to Armenia via Georgia will fall under Baku’s control following the surrender of border areas in Tavush Province.
“In case of the illegal surrender of Tavush territories, Armenia's main Armenia-Georgia-Russia gas pipeline will fall under Azerbaijani control,” he wrote on Facebook on Saturday.
The expert recalled that in 1992 Azerbaijan blew up the pipeline in the Georgian section 30 times a month to put pressure on Armenia, as well as damaged the gas pipeline in Shushi during the Artsakh blockade in 2022.
“The recent statements that “we can import gas from Azerbaijan” are no coincidence. This will constitute as yet another step towards dependence on the Turkish-Azerbaijani duo. We can't let that happen. Together and now!” Geghamyan stated.
