Armenian opposition factions seek closed meeting with ambassadors
The opposition Hayastan and Pativ Unem factions in the Armenian National Assembly have invited the ambassadors accredited to Armenia and officials of international organizations carrying out “reforms” in the country to a closed meeting to discuss the current situation.
“We seek a clear answer to the following question: Is the reform program financed by them ultimately aimed at the establishment of a police state with all its manifestations, including the cases of political prisoners and the use of violence against ordinary citizens?” Artsvik Minasyan, the secretary of the Hayastan faction, told reporters on Thursday.
In his turn, Pativ Unem faction secretary Tigran Abrahamyan said the opposition sought a substantive discussion to understand whether foreign diplomats “have a clue of what is really happening in Armenia”.
“The purpose of our invitation to a closed meeting is to clarify their approaches and to understand what idea these organizations have about the current situation in Armenia, whether their proclaimed goals correspond to the current realities,” the MP said.
