Fire with toxic smoke breaks out at Berlin plant
A fire with toxic smoke has broken out at a metallurgical plant of German defence industry company Diehl Metal Applications GmbH that specialises in the production of IRIS-T air defence systems, UNI reported on Friday, citing the B.Z.-Berlin newspaper.
The plant contains sulfuric acid and copper cyanide, the newspaper said, adding that there is a danger that the fire will produce extremely toxic Hydrocyanic acid.
Earlier in the day, residents of Berlin started receiving emergency alerts marked “danger” from the civil defence department, as the city is covered in toxic smoke due to a fire at a factory.
