Armenian serviceman injured in mine blast in border village
An Armenian serviceman conducting mine clearance in the border village of Kirants was injured in a mine explosion on Monday morning.
Preliminary reports suggest that the sapper sustained leg injuries.
Armenian Defense Ministry spokesman Aram Torosyan confirmed the report and stated that the serviceman's life was out of danger.
On April 19, Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan’s government announced a border agreement committing Armenia to ceding four border villages in Tavush Province to Azerbaijan, which sparked protests in Kirants and other parts of Armenia. Days later, mine clearance began in border areas in preparation for the land handover to Azerbaijan.
