Pro-government MP has no comment on Tavush religious leader's statement
MP Artur Hovhannisyan, who represents Armenia’s ruling Civil Contact party, declined to comment on Archbishop Bagrat Galstanyan’s statement on alleged willingness of senior Civil Contact members to join the Tavush for the Homeland movement opposing the land surrender to Azerbaijan.
“I don't know what they are talking about, I have no comment on that,” Hovhannisyan told a press briefing on Tuesday.
The deputy stated that Armenia's democratic principles ensure freedom of assembly for all citizens.
"Currently, the Civil Contract party is fully engaged in ensuring the security of Armenia, as well as furthering the process of border demarcation and demarcation and peace talks," he remarked.
Archbishop Galstanyan, Primate of the Tavush Diocese of the Armenian Apostolic Church, is currently leading a march from the border village of Kirants to Yerevan in a bid to thwart the Armenian government's unilateral territorial concessions to Azerbaijan.
