Over 31,000 people attended Thursday's mass rally in Yerevan
More than 31,000 people attended a rally held by the Tavush for the Homeland movement in Yerevan’s Republic Square on Thursday evening, the Union of Informed Citizens reported.
The protest against the Armenian government’s territorial concessions to Azerbaijan led by Archbishop Bagrat Galstanyan kicked off in the city center at 6pm.
Hundreds of people led by him began marching to the Armenian capital from Kirants, a border village in Tavush Province, for the mass rally on May 4.
The senior cleric called for peaceful acts of disobedience in and around Yerevan on Friday after Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan did not respond to an ultimatum for his resignation.
The Union of Informed Citizens carried out an aerial count of the participants of the rally, as a result of which it was revealed that as of 6:10pm Thursday, there were about 31,700 people in Republic Square and the surrounding areas.
Archbishop Bagrat demanded the resignation of Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan and unveiled plans for more acts of civil disobedience in and outside Yerevan on Friday.
