Archbishop Bagrat denies any ties to ex-Armenian president
Archbishop Bagrat Galstanyan of the Tavush Diocese, who is leading protests against the Armenian government’s unilateral territorial concessions to Azerbaijan, has denied any affiliation with former President Robert Kocharyan.
“They are promoting a false narrative,” he told reporters during a march towards universities in Yerevan on Friday.
The clergyman claimed he briefly met Kocharyan only once during his visit to the Vazgenyan Theological Academy on the Sevan Peninsula in 2001.
“The meeting lasted only five minutes,” Fr. Bagrat stated, rejecting the claims of Armenia’s ruling Civil Contract party members that he met with Robert Kocharyan after briefly leaving a mass rally in Yerevan on Thursday.
“These people are liars, they are themselves fake,” he added.
