Lawyer says at least 30 protesters detained in Yerevan
At least 30 people were detained during protests in Yerevan on Saturday, human rights lawyer Ruben Melikyan said.
Riot police used excessive force against most of the protesters who were taken to the police stations in Yerevan’s Nor Nork, Arabkir and Zeytun districts.
Earlier, Melikyan and four other human rights activists launched a 24/7 hotline to provide support for detained protesters. Over two dozen lawyers have joined them.
The protests are part of a civil disobedience movement against the Armenian government’s unilateral territorial concessions to Azerbaijan led by Archbishop Bagrat Galstanyan of the Tavush Diocese.
