Opposition MP: Armenian leadership 'scared' of protest movement
Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan and his political team are “scared” of the Tavush for the Homeland movement led by Archbishop Bagrat Galstanyan, opposition lawmaker Garnik Danielyan claims.
“Those fears are well founded,” the MP, who represents the opposition Hayastan faction, said at a protest outside the Armenian government building cordoned off by the police amid a cabinet meeting on Thursday.
He accused the authorities of acting against Armenia's state interests by signing documents on the handover of Armenian territories to Azerbaijan.
“The government leader is terrified. He is accompanied by thousands of police and other law enforcement officers wherever he goes. The man inside the government building is so afraid that he has had it cordoned off by police officers in riot gear, armed with tear gas canisters and I don't know what else,” Danielyan said.
The legislator shared some details of the protocol signed by the Armenian and Azerbaijani border delimitation commissions on Wednesday and the agreements reached with Baku.
