Archbishop Bagrat says no decision yet on his nomination for PM
No official decision has yet been taken on the nomination of Archbishop Bagrat Galstanyan for Armenian prime minister.
The Tavush for the Homeland movement led by the archbishop has been actively protesting against the Armenian government’s unilateral territorial concessions to Azerbaijan and demanding Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan’s resignation, with acts of civil disobedience staged in Yerevan since May 9.
“There is no official decision,” the senior cleric told reporters following his meeting with members of political parties in Yerevan on Saturday.
Galstanyan said politicians shared their concerns and positions at the meeting, but no official decision was made regarding his candidacy.
“First of all, I need to talk to Supreme Patriarch Karekin II to understand whether we will go this way or take another way,” he noted, adding the meeting will be held next Sunday.
