Lawyer inists on release of opposition activists Vazgen Saghatelyan and Narek Samsonyan
Lawyer Arsen Babayan insisted on the release of opposition activists Narek Samsonyan and Vazgen Saghatelyan before the start of preliminary court hearings in the case involving them on Tuesday.
The activists, who co-host the Imnemnimi podcast, were detained on charges of hooliganism on 22 March after using slur language to criticize Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan and his government for their plans to cede territories to Azerbaijan.
“I hope justice will be served today, and the measure of restraint against Narek Samsonyan and Vazgen Saghatelyan will at least be changed allowing their release from custody,” the lawyer told reporters outside the Yerevan Criminal Court.
"And if justice is implemented, the guys should be released, especially since they should not have been detained at all," Babayan said.
