Food runs out in flood-hit Armenian town
The town of Akhtala in Armenia’s Lori Province hit by heavy floods is running out of food, warns Hetum Tarverdyan, the spiritual leader of Akhtala and neighboring villages of Gugark Diocese.
The Akhtala area remains cut off from the outside world because the floods caused by heavy rainfall washed away the sole road connecting it to the provincial capital Vanadzor.
“We are doing well. Thank God, there are no casualties, but we’re under a total blockade. The road to the town has been destroyed and the water supply has been disrupted. The stores are almost running out of food,” the cleric wrote on Facebook on Tuesday.
