Impeachment process against Pashinyan underway, protest leader says
An impeachment process against Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan is in progress, Archbishop Bagrat Galstanyan has said.
The senior cleric spearheading the Tavush for the Homeland protest movement resigned his religious role last week in order to challenge Pashinyan for the post of prime minister.
“We are taking actions every day. The impeachment process is underway,” Galstanyan told reporters as he led a march to the Armenian Interior Ministry on Wednesday.
He sought explanations from the ministry officials following Tuesday’s incident in which riot police attempted to stop Catholicos of All Armenians Karekin II and many other clergymen from visiting the Sardarapat Memorial to mark Republic Day.
