Former President Serzh Sargsyan acquitted
Yerevan’s Criminal Court of General Jurisdiction on Friday acquitted third Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan.
Sargsyan was charged with embezzling ֏489 million (over $1 million) in 2013.
Presiding judge Vahe Misakyan said the former president, as well as businessman Barsegh Beglaryan and former Agriculture Ministry official Gevorg Harutyunyan involved in the case, were acquitted due to lack of any evidence they committed a crime.
The court also lifted the seizure on the assets of Serzh Sargsyan and Barsegh Beglaryan.
The former president said he was satisfied with the court decision.
“Let's see whether it will be appealed to higher courts,” he told reporters.
