Archbishop Bagrat Galstanyan accused the Prosecutor General’s Office of pro-government bias as he led a protest outside its building in Yerevan on Friday.

“The Prosecutor’s Office must serve the state,” he announced. “All this time, the chief prosecutor has only submitted reports to the Armenian prime minister in violation of legal and moral norms.”

“Despite all public calls, no criminal prove has been launched to date, including into statements branding the movement participants “agents” and the like. The Hayakve initiative filed a crime report regarding the unilateral concessions to Azerbaijan, but the Prosecutor’s Office just gave a formal response to it,” the archbishop underscored.

The protest leader also hit out the law-enforcement authorities for fabricated charges against oppositionists Armen Ashotyan, Mamikon Aslanyan and Narek Malyan, as well as failure to prosecute National Assembly Speaker Alen Simonyan for spitting at an opposition activist and other pro-government MPs for threatening their critics.

“Have you taken any measures or made any comments? The agency should be renamed to the Prosecutor General’s Office of the Civil Contract Party or rather the Civil Contract’s Service,” he added.
