War veteran detained for provoking 'mass unrest' in Yerevan
Artsakh war veteran Gegham Hovhannisyan has been arrested for allegedly provoking “mass unrest” in Yerevan.
Hovhannisyan, a father of four who members the Hayakve initiative, was among 28 people detained at a protest outside the Armenian Foreign Ministry building on Friday.
In a statement on Saturday, Hayakve denounced the Armenian government and investigators for the man’s arrest on “fabricated charges of provoking mass unrest” and called for his release.
The protest was part of a civil disobedience campaign seeking Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan's ouster and a halt to his government's unilateral territorial concessions to Azerbaijan.
