Opposition MP slams police brutality against protesters in Yerevan
Opposition MP Tigran Abrahamyan lambasted Armenian police for violence against protesters as he joined hundreds of others for a march to the Investigative Committee on Monday morning.
As many as 28 demonstrators were brutally detained outside the Armenian Foreign Ministry on Friday as they continued to campaign for Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan’s resignation.
“I’ve never seen such brutality,” Abrahamyan, who represents the opposition Pativ Unem faction, told reporters near Holy Cross Church in Yerevan’s Arabkir district.
“Almost all detainees have visible injuries,” the lawmaker said, adding he visited former Deputy Minister of Agriculture Ashot Harutyunan, who is currently hospitalized and is facing arrest for allegedly provoking mass unrest.
He blamed police for clashes with protesters.
"They provoked clashes and took harsh and unacceptable measures to detain people," the MP added.
