Armenia, Azerbaijan see constitutional obstacles to lasting peace, FM says
Armenia and Azerbaijan have reported substantial obstacles in each other’s constitutions to establishing lasting peace between the two countries, Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan said on Tuesday.
Speaking at a parliamentary debate on the execution of the 2023 budget, he stated at the same time that constitutional changes in Armenia were not part of peace talks with Azerbaijan.
“I’m not saying there are no issues. However, we largely believe that the constitutions of Armenia and Azerbaijan cannot be a legal problem for the establishment of lasting peace,” Mirzoyan remarked.
He underscored that it was for Armenia to decide on possible amendments to its constitution.
