Russia says EU mission in Armenia 'destabilizes' South Caucasus
The EU Mission in Armenia (EUMA) plays a “destabilizing" role in the South Caucasus, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova claims
“Nothing but destabilization of the military-political situation and turning the region into another arena of geopolitical rivalry should be expected from the EUMA,” she told a weekly briefing on Friday, responding to a question whether Russia had notified France through its channels that it suspected EU observers of spying.
“We did not notify anyone on this matter,” she said, adding Moscow has spoken publicly and openly about its negative attitude towards the EU mission.
"We have repeatedly commented on the confrontational nature of the EU’s semi-military presence in Armenia. As a matter of fact, there is no need to look anywhere for proofs as they are obvious. The anti-Russian, anti-Azerbaijani and anti-Iranian objectives of this mission are becoming more and more obvious. And especially when NATO countries started to join it, everything became clear, I think, to everyone,” the Russian diplomat said.
