Berlinale Golden Bear winner 'Dahomey' to be screened at Golden Apricot
"Dahomey", the Berlinale Golden Bear-winning film directed by Mati Diop, is among the Yerevan premieres of the 21st Golden Apricot Film Festival, organizers reported.
French-Senegalese director Mati Diop, who in 2019 already received the Cannes Film Festival Grand Prix for Atlantics, documents the return to modern-day Benin of 26 artifacts as presented through the eyes and words of the artifacts themselves, originally plundered from Africa by French colonialists in the late 19th century, while students in Benin passionately debate the meaning of this gesture by the French government within the context of the sores left by colonialism.
