Lawyer decries unlawful arrests of ARF activists
Lawyer Arsen Babayan has denounced the “unlawful” arrests of the Armenian Revolutionary Federation (ARF) activists in Vayots Dzor Province.
Security forces on Friday raided the ARF offices in Vayots Dzor and detained a dozen local activists for allegedly paying people to join protests in Yerevan led by Archbishop Bagrat Galstanyan.
Speaking at a news conference in Yerevan on Tuesday, Babayan said that the influential ARF members holding senior positions were remanded in pre-trial custody.
The lawyer stated that police officers unsuccessfully attempted to persuade the ARF activists to admit the bribery accusations in return for their immediate release.
“They were proposed to admit having paid people and be immediately released from the police custody. All of them are currently under arrest, which means they have rejected the proposal,” Babayan added.
