Pashinyan seeks referendum for more land surrender to Azerbaijan, MP says
Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan seeks a referendum for the surrender of four more villages to Azerbaijan, claims opposition MP Tigran Abrahamyan.
The Armenian government ceded four villages in Tavush Province to Azerbaijan as part of a recently brokered border delimitation deal.
“Pashinyan’s Syunik trip, which will definitely be followed by visits to other provinces, aims to prepare the country for a referendum on the handover of four other villages to Azerbaijan, including Tigranashen, Sofulu, Barkhudarly and Verin Voskepar, in compliance with an agreement,” the lawmaker wrote on Facebook on Tuesday.
“Given that the villages are part of sovereign Armenian territory under the Armenian legislation, a referendum is required for their surrender. I’ve repeatedly warned that the transfer of these villages will inflict strategic blows on Armenia, but the fact remains that the government solely seeks to keep its grip on power through unilateral concessions, giving in to Azerbaijan’s blackmails,” Abrahamyan added.
