Pro-Western Armenia has no chance for survival in South Caucasus, expert says
Political scientist Hrant Mikayelyan believes Armenia has no chance to survive in the South Caucasus by pursuing a pro-Western course.
In an interview to Panorama.am, he claims Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan has dragged Armenia into geopolitical games, risking a loss of Armenian statehood.
“The U.S. will stop short of efforts to expand its influence in the South Caucasus since the only pro-Western country in the region is currently Armenia,” he says.
“The U.S. could turn Armenia into another Ukraine, but given that Armenia is the size of a Ukrainian region, it won’t last long. Therefore, we must realize our historical responsibility in these geopolitical games and what price Armenia will have to pay for these maneuvers, i.e. the loss of statehood again.
“A pro-Western Armenia has no chance for survival in the region because it’s unrealistic,” the expert states.
