Armenian MP urges int'l community to deter Azerbaijan
Even after the 2020 war, Azerbaijan has not backed down from the arms race and continues with its colossal arms purchases along with army reforms, Armenian opposition MP Tigran Abrahamyan states.
“Azerbaijan mostly buys weapons from Israel and Turkey. In parallel, Baku is trying to use its petrodollar influence, creating obstacles for arms supplies to Armenia,” he said on social media on Friday.
“Azerbaijan’s increasing military purchases aim to solve two main problems, including tipping the balance of power towards Baku, which will give it greater opportunities to dominate the negotiation process. While formulating strategic goals, Azerbaijan constantly keeps the use of force in its political arsenal.
"The main international actors promoting lasting peace in the region should deter Azerbaijan's aggressive aspirations, otherwise they could become unpredictable, while the fight against their consequences will no longer make sense,” the MP added.
