CHW warns of increase in destroyed and threatened cultural sites in Artsakh
The Caucasus Heritage Watch (CHW) has released its new monitoring report on cultural heritage in Azerbaijani-occupied Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh).
The latest monitoring cycle has revealed the greatest number of impacted Armenian cultural sites since the CHW team began monitoring in 2021.
“With the collapse of NKR in September 2023, we added over 180 sites into our monitoring routine. A total of 452 sites monitored this cycle, and our database continues to expand. Since CHW began, we have assessed 57 sites as destroyed, damaged, or threatened,” the research organization said.
In this cycle, the impacts cluster in the Shushi and Karvachar districts. Also impacted are Askeran (Aknaghbyur village) and Martuni (Chartar and Tsakuri villages).
