Armenia not welcome in EU, ex-official says
Armenia’s key priority is to ensure its security at this point, former Armenian Deputy Minister of Agriculture Ashot Harutyunyan states.
His comments came at the panel discussion "European Union and Eurasian Economic Union: political or economic choice?" held in Yerevan on Tuesday.
"When it comes to the EU and EEU, we must realize that there are military blocs behind both of them. We need to analyze what these military blocs have given and will give to Armenia. We should build good-neighborly relations and economic ties with the EU, without spoiling relations with the EEU," Harutyunyan said.
Referring to the recent parliamentary hearings on applying for the EU membership, the former official claimed that Armenia was not ready to join the organization.
"There are a lot of economic, cultural and other restrictions. Let's not fool ourselves, the EU is not waiting for us now. The window to Europe is a deception, it is a brazen lie, especially if you look at who are campaigning for it," he added.
