Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan is attempting to mend fences with the Russian leadership to maintain his grip on power, political technologist Armen Badalyan says.

In an interview with Panoarama.am on Wednesday, Badalyan suggested that Marine Le Pen’s victory in the first round of France’s parliamentary elections on Sunday forced Pashinyan to rethink his pro-Western political course.

His comments came after the Armenian premier on Monday voiced misgivings about the idea of a referendum on Armenia’s EU membership, saying the Armenian government should clarify whether the EU was ready to admit the country before such a vote.

“Le Pen has no ties with the globalist forces that support the Armenian government. Given that Donald Trump, a supporter of nationalist forces that also don’t back the Armenian authorities as their curators are the democrat globalists, could win the U.S. elections, as well as Russia’s success, albeit not big, in the Ukraine war, Pashinyan is now curtsying to Russia in an effort to improve bilateral relations,” the expert said.

“Pashinyan is attempting to mend severed ties with the Russian leadership in a bid to maintain his grip on power. Anyway, the prime minister makes such decisions unilaterally, while his government probably learns about them from the Pubic TV news broadcasts,” Badalyan stated.
