Gevorg Danielyan: Where does Azerbaijan's cynical self-confidence come from?
Lawyer Gevorg Danielyan, a former Armenian justice minister, has reacted to Azerbaijan’s “cynical” demands for more concessions from Armenia.
“The Azerbaijani authorities have prepared a unique congratulation on the eve of Armenia's Constitution Day. To the existing notorious demands for a peace treaty with Armenia (renunciation of the Declaration of Independence, removal of the image of Mount Ararat from the coat of arms, provision of an almost uncontrolled corridor and the like) they have added new ones:
1. The right to return should be mutually assured, with the Armenian Constitution specifically enshrining the right to "the resettlement of representatives of the Western Azerbaijan community" to be protected by armed forces from a country allied with Azerbaijan, aka Turkey,
2. The Constitution should enshrine "the right of representatives of Western Azerbaijan to education", etc. (the statements were made at a meeting with the Canadian ambassador),” he wrote on Facebook on Thursday.
“Where does this cynical self-confidence come from?" Danielyan added.
