Iranian envoy: Route to Black Sea via Armenia reduces travel time
The part of the North-South transport corridor, which passes through Armenia, provides an opportunity to reach the Black Sea by a shorter route, Iranian Ambassador to Armenia Mehdi Sobhani said on Friday.
He made the comments after voting in Iran’s presidential election runoff at the Iranian Embassy in Yerevan.
"Construction has already started in Armenian territory, on the Agarak-Kajaran road section. This is a clear program to be implemented,” the diplomat told reporters, hailing the Armenian government’s large funding for the program.
"Soon a tender will be announced for the construction works of Kajaran tunnel, which will facilitate the passage of trucks along the road. I’d like to say that the regional roads will complement each other rather than substitute. This road to the Black Sea reduces the travel time by 2 days,” the ambassador underscored.
