Expert denies false claims about new Iranian president
Reformist candidate Masoud Pezeshkian has won Iran’s presidential election.
Out of 30.5 million votes counted in Friday’s runoff, Pezeshkian won more than 16.3 million, edging out ultraconservative Saeed Jalili, who won more than 13.5 million, according to Press TV.
Vardan Voskanyan, a Yerevan-based specialist on Iran who heads the YSU Chair of Iranian Studies, said that the new Iranian president highlighted the importance of nationwide solidarity in his first interview, promising to use the potential of those who supported his rivals in the election for the benefit of Iran.
Separately, the expert rejected the false claims of the Azerbaijani propaganda machine that Pezeshkian was of Azeri origin.
"Iran's new president is definitely an Iranian originating from Atropatene," Voskanyan wrote.
