Ex-Armenian police chief granted amnesty after jail sentence
The Armenian Anti-Corruption Court presided over by judge Vardges Sargsyan on Tuesday delivered a verdict in the criminal case involving former Armenian Police Chief Vladimir Gasparyan and other ex-officials.
Gasparyan was discharged from criminal responsibility on some charges as the statute of limitations had expired. He was sentenced to 6 years in prison on other charges, but was granted amnesty.
The court issued a similar verdict against Levon Yeranosyan, a former deputy chief of police.
Vardan Tunyan, former head of the police audit department, and Gurgen Grigoryan, former commander of the police troops, were found guilty of all charges, but were exempted from serving their sentences due to the expiration of the statute of limitations.
The prosecutor requested a jail term of 11 years for Vladimir Gasparyan.
All the defendants were accused of abuse of office and misappropriation of public funds.
