Armenian government allocates funds for display of Goddess Anahit statue
The Armenian government on Thursday allocated about 15.7 million drams to make preparations for an exhibition featuring a bronze statue of Anahit, a major pre-Christian Armenian goddess of fertility and healing.
The statue is being loaned to Armenia’s History Museum by the British Museum.
The exhibition titled “Mother Deity: from Anahit to Mariam” will also showcase other exhibits from the History Museum collection.
The exhibition opens at the History Museum on September 21, Armenia’s Independence Day, to run for six months.
Armenia’s Minister of Culture Zhanna Andreasyan stressed the importance of its opening on the country’s Independence Day, stating that the event would garner a lot of public interest.
