EU Foreign Affairs Council to discuss assistance to Armenia
Visa liberalization and the allocation of 10 million euros to Armenia from the European Peace Fund are among the issues on the agenda of the EU Foreign Affairs Council to be held on July 22, Armenpress reports.
According to the Armenpress correspondent, the funding provided by the European Peace Facility will aid in strengthening Armenia's defense capabilities. The EU prioritizes the protection of civilians in emergency situations, which is what the aid seeks to cover.
Under no circumstances will the planned aid be spent on lethal weapons or involve joint military exercises, as the EU does not have an army.
The European Commission-Armenia dialogue on the liberalization of the visa regime is also to be discussed at the meeting of the Foreign Affairs Ministers of the EU member states. Once the dialogue is underway, the visa liberalization action plan will be presented to the Armenian authorities.
