Political analyst: Now everyone understands Pashinyan's 'new bluff'
Political analyst Suren Surenyants has reacted to the reports that the criminal case against former Armenian President Robert Kocharyan and other ex-officials concerning the 1 March 2008 post-election unrest in Yerevan may reopen.
The criminal case against Kocharyan was dropped in March 2021 after Armenia’s Constitutional Court found “invalid” Article 300.1 of the Criminal Code regarding “overthrow of the constitutional order” under which the former president was being prosecuted.
“The charge against Armenia’s second president and several others may be reclassified, according to a decision adopted by the Constitutional Court,” Surenyants wrote on Facebook on Tuesday.
“Don't think that Pashinyan sincerely wants to solve the March 1 case. Even if new charges are brought, the statute of limitations issue will arise.
“Pashinyan has a different goal; he is once again playing the Kocharyan card in the domestic politics, exploiting public fears about the latter's political engagement. I think now everyone understands Pashinyan's new bluff,” the analyst said.
